We conduct basic or applied research, evaluation, and public policy analysis in areas that affect or could affect, either positively or negatively, individuals with developmental disabilities and their families to improve their lives and to enhance the effectiveness of community-based programs and supports.
Applied and basic research, evaluation, and policy analysis are designed to complement our core functions and to address the identified priority-need areas, through both qualitative and quantitative methodologies.
We identify specific research and policy questions for
each project area. Input from families and people with
disabilities, including our Consumer Advisory Council, is solicited to develop research projects and analyze results. We disseminate the results through the center's Information Services channels.
Goals include:
• Develop and conduct research related to community inclusion.
• Develop and conduct research-related quality of life issues for individuals with disabilities and family members (assessment, safety, advocacy).
• Conduct policy analysis related to family-centered planning, support, and self-determination.
• Conduct policy analysis related to assistive technology.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of program models related to community inclusion.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of program models related to family-centered planning, support, and self-determination.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of best practices in education models.
